SUAVE, which stands for Single Unified Auction for Value Expression, is Flashbot’s abstraction of the transaction supply chain. Due to the adverse effects of MEV, several standalone solutions have emerged to combat these effects. However, these solutions often rely on centralised actors, requiring users to place trust in them: from needing to trust centralised solutions for auction credibility to the relatively oligopolistic block builder landscape. SUAVE promises a better outcome embodying the idea of trust minimization which typically involves a trade off in the computational efficiency of a system in exchange for stronger guarantees as to what the system is actually executing.
In this article, we explore how some of the most popular aforementioned centralised services might look like if they were built on top of SUAVE instead, whilst weighing the consequences this could have on the wider ecosystem. However, to begin with, we give a brief overview of the underlying technology that makes SUAVE possible.
