Wintermute DeFi Governance Digest: October 2024 | Week 2

8 OCTOBER 2024 | RESEARCH | AUTHORED BY IGOR

This week’s proposals include the introduction of a new perpetual DEX, Ethereal, and Aave’s plan to deploy the isolated credit line for GnosisDAO, along with votes from Lido on the initial CSM parameters, Aave to upgrade to version 3.2, and Arbitrum to deploy a custom gateway for RARI.

Proposals

Ethena (ENA)

Proposal: Introducing Ethereal: Request to Ethena Governance on Integration

Author: Fells0x

Summary: This proposal introduces the new perp DEX on top of Ethena Network to add more utility for the USDe token and allocate 15% of the Ethereal token to the ENA community. In the exchange, the Ethereal team asks for support from the community and the integration.

Key Points:

  • Ethereal plans to be an L3 EVM appchain with the settlement on the upcoming Ethena Network./li>
  • On top of having more utility for the Ethena ecosystem, the Ethereal launch will make it possible to back USDe on-chain too, making the project more decentralized.

  • The Ethereal team is asking various Ethena teams for help with technical due diligence to enable a quick integration.

  • With the third Ethena season launch, sENA and rsENA holders have started to earn Ethereal points that will be converted to part of the 15% token allocation for the Ethena community.

Our Take: It’s always great to see deeper integrations and collaborations across ecosystems, and we’re eager to see how Ethereal can bring more utility to Ethena.

Aave (AAVE)

Proposal: [ARFC] Deploy a Gnosis DAO Credit Line Aave v3 Instance

Author: ACI and Karpatkey

Summary: This proposal is related to the launch of a specific Aave v3 instance for the GnosisDAO treasury to get a stablecoin credit line in GHO.

Key Points:

  • The GnosisDAO has a $600M+ treasury, which Karpatkey actively manages, with more than half of it in GNO and ETH.

  • Having the opportunity to use these funds as collateral to get more stablecoins for new opportunities would improve treasury management

  • That’s why Aave is helpful with their specific GHO credit line when GnosisDAO could be the only borrower.

  • The initial cap for GHO minting will be 5M; 6.5k wstETH and 174k GNO will be supply caps.

Our Take: The idea makes sense, and we’re looking forward to seeing how this pilot works, as it could open up new opportunities for DAO borrowings on Aave.

Votes

Lido (LDO)

Proposal: Lido Community Staking Module Mainnet Release Setup

Status: Live.

Created: Oct 3, 2024.

Ends: Oct 10, 2024.

Leading Consensus: Approve CSM mainnet release – 29M LDO (100% of total votes).

Summary: This proposal signals approval of the initial parameters for the Community Staking Module, which is the first permissionless staking Lido module. This module was deployed on the Holesky testnet over 3 months ago and demonstrated outstanding results.

Aave (AAVE)

Proposal: Upgrade all Aave instances to 3.2

Status: Live.

Created: Oct 4, 2024.

Ends: Oct 7, 2024.

Leading Consensus: For – 754.2k AAVE (100% of total votes).

Summary: This update will fully off-board stable rate borrowing and improve the eModes by making them liquid. It means that a single asset could be listed in multiple eModes to provide even better risk control on the DAO side.

Arbitrum (ARB)

Proposal: Enhancing Multichain Governance: Upgrading RARI Governance Token on Arbitrum

Status: Live.

Created: Oct 4, 2024.

Ends: Oct 18, 2024.

Leading Consensus: Yes – 6.58M ARB (100% of total votes)

Summary: This proposal will register a custom gateway for the RARI token to bring the governance framework from Ethereum to Arbitrum. The good thing about this vote is that the gateway code could be reused to migrate even more tokens with additional functionality to Arbitrum.
